Ezo Seafoods to Open "Katsugyo" (活魚)Restaurant in Izu Peninsula

Niseko, Nov 28, 2013. Ezo Seafoods (The Katori Company; Representative: James Gallagher) is pleased to annouce that it has secured the lease on an existing seafood restaurant on Japan's Izu Peninsula, a popular summer resort tourist area south of Tokyo. Ezo plans to renovate the property with a view to opening a seafood restaurant under the Ezo Seafoods banner in May 2015. It will be the first expansion of Ezo Seafoods, which was established in 2009 in Niseko, Hokkaido, and has built a strong following amongst skiers who flock to Niseko every winter for its world class powder snow. Ezo Seafoods will operate seasonally, opening in winter in Niseko, and summer in Izu. 

 

Located in the shadow of Mt. Fuji, Izu Peninsula is famous for its local seafood and attracts tourists from surrounding prefectures of Kanagawa, Tokyo, Yamanashi and Aichi. Many travel to enjoy "Katsugyo" (活魚) or live fish, which are caught in abundance and maintained in restaurant seafood tanks. The new premises was a "Katsugyo" restaurant and thus has facilities for maintaining live fish. It is located in the fishing town of Kuchino, Numazu City (pop: 198,000), Shizuoka Prefecture. 

 

Owner James Gallagher said: "The Izu Peninsula represents an ideal location for Ezo Seafoods - it has great local seafood, is close to seafood markets and is within a 20 minute drive to the cities of Numazu and Mishima. We hope that we can delight locals and tourists with some of our popular dishes like Squid Ink Paella and Clam Chowder, and also learn new local dishes which we can introduce to our Niseko customers."
